Afternoon Walk

I love to walk through the woods

on a summer day

to see the sun shining with brilliance on the leaves

that flutter in the wind,

making them tremble with joy

at the wonder of it all!

Morning Watch

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. Ps 42:1

Beside Still Waters

David called God the Good Shepherd that led him beside the still waters. Sheep need to drink at still waters because rushing water can easily carry them downstream when their heavy fleece becomes soaked.

Since water is so important to every living creature, God speaks about it often  in Scripture. He miraculously provided water for the Isreelites in the desert in spite of the fact that they continually complained about being thirsty. He creates springs of water to quench the thirst of animals and man.

He turns the desert into springs of water symbolizing a barren soul being filled with the Holy Spirit. God promised in the Old Testament that if people would worship God, their water suplpy would be blessed. God provides water for the land.

God is the Lord of the waters, and just as He can provide it to meet man''s needs, He can also withhold it as punishment. Isaiah speaks about God turning springs into desert land and fruitful land into salt wastes because of the sin of those who live there.

Water is used as a means of punishment --from too little of it to too much of it. Flowing springs are turned into desert. God sent the flood on the earth as punishment for the sin of the people, but saved Noah and his family. David dried up physically as well as spiritually because of his sin of adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband, Uriah.

An unwatered garden is a curse for idoltry.

God gave poisoned water to drink as punishment. God is the spring of living water.

God's wrath is like a flood of water.

The stumbler of children are better off drowned.

The rich man requested that Abraham send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and cool the rich man's tongue because the rich man was in torment in the flame.
